THE STORY

Brad Brody was a West Des Moines Medic for 33 years and devoted a great amount of time behind the scenes to help make West Des Moines EMS what it is today.  Brad died on September 5th, 2024 from a brain tumor.

Brad loved West Des Moines, Parades and the Iowa State Fair!     Prior to being diagnosed with a brain tumor, Brad was helping to bring a piece of EMS history back to West Des Moines.  The idea was to find a replica of the ambulance from over 50 years ago, restore it to the exact look of the 1970 ambulance and then use it in parades and special events.  Brad was dedicated to remembering the history of West Des Moines EMS.

After a couple of years looking for the ambulance, we found it in Kansas.  Within 24 hours, Brad funded the complete cost of buying it.  The goal at the time was a fundraising campaign to restore the ambulance to its original equipment and make it safe and functional for parades and other events.  Unfortunately, Brad was diagnosed with the glioblastoma prior to getting the project off of the ground.

This truly is a West Des Moines project with Nostalgic Enterprises in Valley Junction coordinating the refurbishment, Jacobson Auto Body completing the body work and and painting, and Lowell's providing the initial tow services.

THE FINAL FUNDING PUSH!

The Brody Family has made a sizable donation to renovate the ambulance, and we're now opening the campaign up to the community so others who'd like to play a role in this worthy cause have the chance to do so.

To carry the project across the finish line, we're raising an additional $15,000. These funds will complete the equipment installations and interior work, with the remainder set aside for ongoing maintenance.

Our goal is to wrap everything up by EMS Week, May 17–23. Once finished, the ambulance — along with the maintenance reserve — will be donated to the City of West Des Moines.

Please join us in supporting this project!
